Phyllis Cunningham Simons

December 16, 1937 — March 6, 2005

PHYLLIS CUNNINGHAM SIMONS, of Malvern, Pennsylvania, formerly of Darlington, died suddenly March 6, 2005 as a result of a plane crash. She was 67.

Born December 6, 1937 in Chesnut Hill, MD, she was one of three children born to the late Ellsworth Preston and Mary Ruth Crouse Cunningham.

Following graduation from North Harford High School in 1955, she was employed at Edgewood Arsenal. In 1956, she married her childhood sweetheart, Richard W. Simons. She then traveled with her husband as he served in the United States Air Force.

In her husband’s second career as a corporate pilot for Spectacor and Comcast, she assisted him on flights, traveling around the world.

Mrs. Simons particularly enjoyed her grandchildren, who affectionately called her “Oma”. She also enjoyed gardening, needlepoint, and quilt work, skiing, antiquing, and traveling abroad. She was an active member at the Lord Our Savior Church in Wayne, PA.

Mrs. Simons is survived by sons, Gregory L. Simons and wife, Sheri, and their children Jessica, Russell, and David of Overland Park, KS and Michael A. Simons and wife, Linda, and their children Jeff, Kevin, and Jennifer of Charlotte, NC. She was predeceased by his son, Stephen W. Simons, who also served in the United States Air Force. She is survived by Stephen’s two children Meredith and Bethany Simons of Fort Worth, Texas.

She is also survived by her brother Ellsworth L. Cunningham and his wife, Doris of Bel Air, MD. In addition to her brother, Mrs. Simons is survived by her dear aunt, Velia C. Kone (Dee) of Bel Air. Mrs. Simons was truly the joy of her Aunt Dee’s life.

Pallbearers were: Brian Simmons, Dave Holbrook, Russ Simons, Tony Ill, Mike McNeely, and Dave Harlan.
