Phoebe L. Sewell

Phoebe L. Sewell, age 94, of Abingdon, MD, died on October 12, 2009 at Stella Maris Hospice in Timonium, MD. Born in Pylesville, MD, she was the daughter of the late Robert Marshall and Hannah Ann Whiteford McFadden, and wife of the late Charles S. Sewell. A longtime member of Cokesbury Memorial United Methodist Church, she was Sunday school treasurer and also belonged to the United Methodist Women. A life member of the Abingdon Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary was a member for over 50 years. On June 20, 1995, she also became a 50 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Harford Chapter #83, where she was a life member, long time treasurer, and past Matron. She then became a member of the Past Matrons Society of Northern Maryland.

Mrs. Sewell is survived by her sons, William H. Sewell II and Robert S. Sewell; daughter, Charlyn Sewell Fisher, Ph.D.; sister, H. Viola Washburn; grandson, C. Scott Sewell; and great-granddaughter, Kendall Noell Sewell. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her brothers, H. Delmar and R. Curtis McFadden, sister, L. Margaret Watters, and grandson, Charles Smith Sewell III.

Pallbearers will be Holly McComas Pennington, Steve Hughes, Howard McComas IV, Howard McComas III, Scott Sewell, and Michael McComas. Honorary pallbearers will be Marian Stroupe, Dorothy Standiford, Alma McComas, Ruth Anderson, Barbara Hunt, Virginia "Sis" Riley, and Nellie Orsburn.
