PHILIP WILLIAM WERNIG, SR., age 74, of Edgewood, Maryland, died at his home on May 5, 2003. Born in Everett, Massachusetts, he was the son of the late Frederick and Lillian J. Faucy Wernig. He was a resident of Harford County, Maryland for 31 years. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during WW II. He worked for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Boston, Okinawa and Baltimore as a geologist/ engineer.
Mr. Wernig is survived by his wife of 54 years, Doris Battershall Wernig; two sons, Philip William Wernig, Jr. of Abingdon, Maryland ; Kurt W. Wernig of Edgewood, Maryland; three daughters, Carol A. Ensley of Ketsch, Germany; D. Lorraine Clarke of Sitka, Alaska; Joann L. Jesser of Pretoria, South Africa; one brother, Vincent Wernig of Rhode Island; two sisters, Gloria Brunet of Everett, Massachusetts; Dolores Shannon of Woburn, Massachusetts; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandson. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by one son, George A. Wernig.
