Phil Goodwin

October 9, 1944 — January 20, 2022

Philip “Phil” Goodwin, age 77, of Middle River, Maryland passed away on January 20, 2022, at his home.  Born in Braintree Massachusetts he was the son of the late Laurence and Regina (Shine) Goodwin. He was married in 2000 to Donna (McNulty) Goodwin. He graduated from Calvert Hall College High School in Baltimore in 1963.  Phil was then drafted to the Vietnam war in 1964 where he completed a 1-year tour in the area of Plieku followed by an additional year of service stateside.

Phil spent many years working with and around horses during both his adolescence and throughout the 1960’s and 1970’s eventually becoming the “whip” for Greenspring Valley Hunt Club.  Phil joined the Baltimore Police Department in 1974 and was later promoted to Detective assigned to the Auto Theft division where he stayed until his retirement in 1995. Phil was a part of the regional joint auto theft task force as well as working with the FBI on several major cases throughout his career.

Phil joined the Joppa-Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company in 1979 where he held numerous ranks including Chief. This became Phil’s true passion where he spent the majority of his time when not at work. The entire family was heavily involved in fire department activities which likely lead to his daughter Laura (Jason) Porrovicchio becoming a Paramedic for Harford County EMS as well as his son Jason (Jennifer) Goodwin becoming a Battalion Chief for the Baltimore City Fire Department.

Phil’s later passion became his love of his current wife Donna, his 13 grandchildren, Britany, Shane Jr., James T., Sabrina, Sydnie, Hanna, Julia, Sarah, Michael, Alex, Vinny, Emily, and Tony, 2 great grandchildren, Mason and Max, his dog Copper, and three cats. Phil liked nothing more than just sitting in his chair watching everyone and everything happening around him.  Donna and Phil spent the summer’s camping in numerous areas and his winter’s trying to stay warm as he hated the cold and he would let you know it. He is also survived by his stepsons James Brennan, and Mark Brennan, brother Mark Goodwin, and sister Patricia Seiling. He was preceded in death by parents, sister Alice Bradford, brothers David, and Peter Goodwin as well as stepson Shane Brennan.

Contributions may be made to BARCS, 2490 Giles Road, Baltimore, MD 21225.
