Pauline “Polly” Mae Swift Brannan, born January 25, 1927 in York, PA passed away at 93 on January 19, 2021 at Citizens Care Center in Havre De Grace MD. She was the daughter of the late Charles Linwood Swift and Nora P. Swift.
Pauline was raised in Jarrettsville, MD and graduated from Maryland General Hospital as a registered nurse. Through her career she worked at Johns Hopkins and Maryland General Hospital. In 1957 she put her career on hold to raise her six children and returned to nursing in 1971 where she worked as the Director of Nursing at Hidden Brook Treatment Center.
For decades, Pauline was a dedicated member of St. Ignatius Catholic Church where she attended church weekly with her husband Robert. She was a life member of the VFW, DAV Auxiliary and Maryland General Alumni. She enjoyed spending time with the Golden Age Club, DAR, and Historical Society members and her passion for genealogy spanned from 1960 until her death. During this time she researched and published a book of her mother’s (Poe) family history dating back to the 1600’s.
Pauline was married to the love of her life, Robert Paul Brannan, Sr. who preceded her in death in 2008. She was the mother of six children, of which, three preceded her in death, Robert Brannan, Jr., Nancy Lort, and Susan Sergent. She is survived by three children Sandra Hoff (Tom), Steven Brannan, and Michael Brannan (Christine). As Mom-Mom, she cherished her 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother William Thomas “Tom” Swift and was preceded in death by two sisters, Ella Enfield and Reba Lytle, and most recently, her brother Charles “Mike” Linwood Swift, Jr.
Services will be private.
