On February 12, 2015, Paul J. Payne, affectionately known as Skip, passed away peacefully at Cornerstone Hospice in Tavares, Florida. He was 72 years old.
Born September 1, 1942, he is survived by his wife Miriam L. Payne and daughter Tracy R. Payne. He is predeceased by his mother Florence E. Payne, father Paul J. Payne Sr., and son Richard P. Payne.
Skip was a resident of Harford County, Maryland until July 2014, when his family moved to Florida.
After graduating from Edgewood High School in 1960, Skip married his high school sweetheart, Miriam Lois Watters, on June 17, 1962. He worked at Koppers in Glen Arm, MD as a machinist until 1970 when he started Fallston Excavating Co. in 1964. He ran the family business with his wife and son for 38 years and closed the business in 2008 due to his early onset Alzheimer's diagnosis.
Skip enjoyed league bowling and tractor pulls. He also enjoyed working on cars, trucks, and heavy equipment. He was a master mechanic who could fix anything mechanical. Skip was a very successful, capable, hard-working, and peace loving man who was well liked and respected by many.
Pallbearers include John Clayton, Ben Dillon, Marty Dodge, Darin D'Onofrio, Ken Hopkins, and Butch Martin.
Visitation and services at McComas Funeral Home on Broadway Street in Bel Air, MD, begin at 10:00 am on Friday February 20, 2015. Interment will follow services at Highview Memorial Gardens in Fallston, MD.
