Paul S. Lake Jr.

September 15, 1927 — April 21, 2008

PAUL SAUNDERS LAKE, JR., born on September 15, 1927, died at Forest Hill Health and Rehabilitation Center, Forest Hill, MD from Alzheimer's complications on Monday, April 21, 2008. A resident of Bel Air, he was 80. Born in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late Paul Saunders Lake, Sr. and Margaret Catherine Hess Lake.

Paul was an Eagle Scout and scoutmaster for over 25 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, spending time with his family, and spending time at his condo in Ocean City, MD. He was active in politics – Harford County Planning Commissioner – four terms; served as Congressman Clarence Long's campaign treasurer for 16 years; lifetime member and past vice-president and president of Harford/Cecil County Life Underwriters Association; served as A.A.R.P. "Vote 1" Congressional Representative; and was a member and officer of Met Vets Retiree Association. He was a veteran and served our country in the U.S. Navy.

He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Kingsville, MD, where he sang in the choir, taught Sunday School, and served 12 years on the Administrative Committee.

He retired from Metropolitan Life, after working for 31 years, as an agent and then manager in the Harford County, Cecil County, and Baltimore City area.

Mr. Lake was the beloved husband for 57 years, and best friend of, Barbara Hull Lake of Bel Air, MD; devoted and loving father to Paul S. Lake, III and his wife, Tina, of Russellville, AR, James F. Lake of Bel Air, MD, Stephen E. Lake and his wife, Jatana, of Edgewood, MD, and Melody Lake Burrill and her husband, Matt, of Abingdon, MD; loving grandfather to Megan Lake Delzer and her husband, Bobby, of Bel Air, MD, Matt Burrill, Jr., Mark Burrill, and Michael Burrill, all of Abingdon, MD, and Rachel Lake McGaughey and her husband, Ray, and Alex Lake all of Russellville, AR; and step-grandfather of Ryan and Jamie Vaught, both of Edgewood, MD. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, and his sister-in-law, Betty Lake of Parkville, MD. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Robert H. Lake.

Pallbearers were: James F. Lake, Stephen E. Lake, Paul S. Lake, III, Matthew W. Burrill, Sr., Matthew W. Burrill, Jr., Megan L. Delzer, and John Pendill.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 1850 York Road, Suite D, Timonium, MD 21093-5122 or to St. Paul's Lutheran Church Choir Fund, 12022 Jerusalem Road, Kingsville, MD 21087.
