Paul Howard Barben

November 28, 1921 — August 19, 2004

PAUL HOWARD BARBEN, age 82, of Churchville, died at his home on August 19, 2004. Born in Graceton, Maryland, he was the son of the late Harry Mordecai and Dora May Thompson Barben. He had retired from his job at Bethlehem Steel in 1984. He served his country in the Civil Conservation Corps and was a member of the Maryland National Guard Company D, 29th Division that was activated in WW II. He served in the European Theatre and was awarded two Purple Hearts. He was a member of Oddfellows, a charter member of the American Legion in Delta, Pennsylvania, and a member of the D.A.V. He enjoyed fox hunting and traveling. He was a loving and wonderful father. His family lived in Harford County for generations and he attended Churchville Presbyterian Church. He coached softball in Darlington.

Mr. Barben is survived by his wife of 58 years, Doris P. Rehmeyer Barben; one son, Paul H. Barben of Jarrettsville; five daughters, Pamela S. Magness of New Windsor, Maryland; Paula C. Moore of Fredericksburg, Virginia; Linda S. Bilchak of Kansas City, Missouri; Cynthia M. Givans of Aberdeen, MD; Rebecca A. Stout of Port Deposit, MD; one brother, Harry Barben of Clearwater, Florida; one sister, Jane Neal of Debary, Florida; 10 grandchildren; Brian Magness of Reisterstown, MD; Samantha Blankenship of Hanover, PA; Tina Glass of Fredericksburg, VA; Aaron Moore of Fredericksburg, VA; Jennifer Blackstone of Raymore, Missouri; Carrie Bilchak of Alaska; Derek and Rachel Stout of Port Deposit, MD; Jacob and Joshua Barben of Jarrettsville, MD; Jessica Wood of Baltimore; ten great-grandchildren, Grace and Eleanor Magness of Reisterstown, MD; Emma and Benet Blankenship of Hanover, PA; Aubrey and Theodore Glass of Fredericksburg, VA; Em and Keri Patrick Blackstone of Raymore, Missouri; and Michael and Andrew Wood of Aberdeen. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by one sister, Blanche Jones.

Services were held in McComas Funeral Home, P.A. in Abingdon, MD on Tuesday, August 24, 2004 at 12 noon with Rev. Joseph F. Condro officiating. Interment was in Harford Memorial Gardens in Aldino, MD.
