Patricia Ann Parks was born in Baltimore City on January 22, 1945 to W. Carroll and Edna Frey Parks of Hamilton, MD. "Pat" earned her Baccalaureate degree from the University of Baltimore and went on to earn her Masters from Morgan State University. Pat served as a high school English teacher in Baltimore City and in Frederick County, MD. In 1970, she married Reverend William Smith, "Father Bill" and moved to Frederick, MD where she taught at the Thomas Johnson High School.
Pat and Father Bill moved to Harford County in 1972 when he became Rector of St Mary's Episcopal Church in Abingdon, MD. Pat left teaching to pursue a career as a travel agent that spanned nearly forty years. She spent much of that time as a Destination specialist with the World Travel Service in Hunt Valley, MD. Even in retirement, she continued to serve the traveling public, booking leisure travel from her home office.
Raised a Presbyterian, Pat was confirmed as a member of the Episcopal Church prior to her marriage and was an active member of All Saints Church in Frederick, and Saint Mary's Church in Emmorton, MD. At Saint Mary's, she filled a number of positions, ranging from Sunday school teacher, Choir member, treasurer and groundskeeper. When she said that she would serve wherever needed, she truly meant it. Whether you knew her as Pat, Trish, or her husband's affectionate title of the "Small Boss," her bright eyed smile, signature laugh and adventurous spirit were her trademark. She was an avid reader, outspoken student of history and an aficionado of the Presidency. Pat's curiosity for learning led her and her husband Bill to all four corners of the globe. She was passionate in her desire to see as much of the world as possible, and did so.
Pat was a member of PTANA (Professional Travel Agents of North America, IATA (The International Air Transport Association), a supporter of Colonial Williamsburg, the National Wildlife Fund, and several other notable charities.
Pat is survived by her husband, Reverend William Smith of Bel Air, MD, sister Mrs. Michael (Carol) Goorevitz, her nephew, Officer Jason Goorevitz of Monkton, MD her niece, Mrs. Michael (Tamara) Rodrigues of Ellicott City, MD and their families. She also leaves her in-laws Elizabeth & Harry Littleton, sister-in-law Mrs. Larry Schaaf, and her nieces Mrs. Hugh Hurst and Jennifer Morgan, all of Baltimore, MD.
