Owen L.Johnson, 60, beloved husband of Mary Beth Walker Johnson, died suddenly on January 24 at his home in Annapolis, MD. Born in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of George W. and Betty Johnson. Owen moved with his family to Bel Air in 1963. He graduated from Bel Air High School in 1969, attended Jacksonville University, FL, and graduated from Towson University in 1974. He worked in the banking industry in Maryland and Delaware for many years.In 1983, Owen married Mary Beth Walker of Forest Hill.
For Owen, his wife, family and friends came first. He sincerely enjoyed the company of his immediate and extended families. In particular, he delighted in his many nieces' and nephews' company and provided many positive memories throughout their lives.A colorful character, Owen enjoyed a good practical joke and possessed a wonderful sense of humor.Kind-hearted and thoughtful, he would do anything for his family and friends. He was a gracious and loving man.
A lifelong sports enthusiast, Owen played tennis and basketball for Bel Air High School. While at Jacksonville he crewed for the University. Owen was an avid golfer and formerly belonged to the Maryland Golf and Country Club in Bel Air.Owen's intense interest in sports continued throughout his life. He nurtured a long distance rivalry with his sister-in-law, Leslie Walker, of Superior, Wisconsin and "her" Green Bay Packers every Sunday through the season. His knowledge of any professional team's status was significant. If anyone had a question about any player or any team, Owen always knew the right answer.
He is survived by his wife, Beth, of twenty-nine years, his brother, George W. Johnson, Jr., sister, Nancy Johnson Weitzel. Surviving Johnson nephews include: David, Mark, Gary, Scott, Glen, David, and Mark Johnson. Surviving nieces include Lisa, Amy, and Wendy Weitzel.
Owen was extremely close to his wife's family, the Walkers of Forest Hill. He is also survived by sisters-in-law, Nancy Walker Martin of New Jersey, Pat Walker Fielder of Sophia's Dairy, Belcamp, Betty M. Walker of Forest Hill, Robin P. Walker of Churchville, Elaine S. Walker of Forest Hill and Leslie P. Walker of Superior, WI.Also he is survived by his brothers-in-law, Richard C. Walker of Churchville, Dr.James D. Fielder of Sophia's Dairy, Belcamp, Michael C. Walker of Forest Hill, Robert K. Walker of Forest Hill and John J. Walker of Superior, WI. Surviving Walker nieces and nephews include: Kevin J. Martin of Washington DC, Patrick C. Martin, West Long Branch, NJ, Carey Martin Dickerson of Lambertville, NJ, James D. Fielder, III of Annapolis, Emily Walker of Bel Air, and Ian C. Walker of Superior, WI.
Owen was pre-deceased by his parents, George and Betty Johnson, brother-in-law, Randy Weitzel, and nephew, Nathan J.Fielder.
Friends and family may attend a memorial service, Saturday, February 4th from 2:00 to 4:00 pm at McComas Funeral Home, 50 West Broadway, Bel Air, MD. Refreshments will follow the service at the Fielders, Sophia's Dairy.Donations may be made to the Boys and Girls Club of Annapolis, MD at www.bgcaa.com.
