Othniel Thompson, age 86, of Forest Hill, Maryland passed away on September 26, 2021 at Brightview Towson in Towson, Maryland. A proud member of the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina, he was born in Pembroke, North Carolina to the late Boss and Anna (Dial) Thompson. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Othniel (or Niel as he was known) was a loving and devoted husband of 54 years to the late Betty (Glock) Thompson. For most of his professional life, he worked for Maryland’s Department of the Environment where he made significant contributions to safety in areas such as nuclear energy, transportation, food safety, and conservation of the Chesapeake Bay Watershed. A man of deep and abiding faith, he taught Sunday School and was a Deacon at Calvary Baptist Church, serving alongside his wife for many years.
Othniel is survived by his two daughters, Martha and Carol Thompson; son, Philip Thompson; daughter-in-law, Gaea Thompson; two grandchildren, Kaden and Elise Thompson; sister, Lucille Clark; and brother, Gary (Patricia) Thompson.
