OSCAR N. WELLER, SR., age 87, of Bel Air, MD, died on February 13, 2006 at Harford Memorial Hospital. Born in Charlestown, WV, he was the son of the late Cyrus Washington and Ella May Maxell Weller. Growing up, he was captain of his football, basketball and baseball teams at Charlestown High School. He worked as a security guard for the B&O Railroad in Locust Point for 22 years and at Steamship Trade Association in Canton for 20 years. He was very active in Boy Scout Troop #606 in Baltimore where he was known as “Pa” Weller. He was known for his cooking at the Broadcreek Boy Scout Camp during summer camp. Before moving to Bel Air in 2000, he was known as the “Mayor” of the Walker Manor area of Baltimore, and loved to cook on the grill for everyone.
Mr. Weller is survived by his wife of 65 years, Lillian V. Weller of Bel Air, MD; one son, O. Nelson Weller, Jr., and his wife, Eileen, of Bel Air, MD; two grandchildren, Susan Weller Kutcher, and her husband, John, of Forest Hill, MD and Leigh Ann Weller Roberts, and her husband, Jim, of Bel Air, MD; and five great-grandchildren, Timothy John Kutcher, Steven Michael Kutcher and Joseph Daniel Kutcher, all of Forest Hill, MD, and Christopher James Roberts and Benjamin Ryan Roberts, both of Bel Air, MD.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Emmanuel Episcopal Church, 303 North Main Street, Bel Air, MD 21014, or to the Alzheimer’s Disease Association, 1850 York Road, Suite D, Timonium, MD 21093.
