Ophelia Hurley Day, age 89, of Edgewood, MD, passed away on April 7, 2012 at her home. Born in Crumpler, NC, she was the daughter of the late Estal Hurley and Betty Shumaker Jenkins. As a school bus contractor for Harford County Public Schools she has owned and operated OHD Transportation Services since 1959 and over the years has transported generations of Harford County students to and from school. In her earlier years she owned and operated an Assisted Living Facility providing care to those who could no longer care for themselves. She also found time to give of herself to those in need and opened her home to many foster children over the years. She enjoyed any outdoor activity and loved gardening although she was happiest spending time with her family.
Mrs. Day is survived by her sons, Sam Day of Joppa, MD and Larry Day of Bel Air, MD; daughter, Sue Nichols of Edgewood, MD; sister, Stella Mae Blackburn of Crumpler, NC; grandchildren, Denise Lawson of Edgewood, MD, Kim Russell of Edgewood, MD, Karen Nichols of Durham, NC, Tyler Day of Edgewood, MD and Kacy Day of Bel Air, MD; and great-grandchildren, Brandon and Lauren Russell. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers, Willie, Gilbert, Anson, Jess and Jack Hurley and sisters, Bobbie Lee Blackburn and Mary Etta McCraw.
Pallbearers will be Harold Beavers, Richard Beavers, Tyler Day, Paul Boone, John Russell and Brandon Russell.
