Ollie Thomas Cumpston

Ollie Thomas Cumpston “Tink”, age 84, of Jarrettsville, MD, peacefully passed away on May 16, 2018 in home Hospice Care. He was born May 17, 1933, in Catlettsburg, KY to Oliver and Helen (Moyers) Cumpston.

He enlisted in the Navy and served as an Aircraft Mechanic on the aircraft carrier, Shangri-La, sailing the world from 1952 – 1956. He met the love of his life, Lottie Beblowski, while visiting a port in New York. They were married on June 27, 1954 and raised their family in Maryland.

After the service, he became a welder at Eastern Stainless Steel in Baltimore and was self-employed of Cumpston’s Welding Services until his retirement in 1995.

He is survived by his children, Lorene Tompros (Tom) of Phoenix, MD, Carol Gilmartin (Andrew) of Bel Air, MD, and Thomas Cumpston (Megan McGann) of Jarrettsville, MD,: and grandchildren Britney (Alexander) Boddiford, Evan Tompros, Hannah Gilmartin (Fiance Bradley Randall), Adrianna Tompros, Susan Cumpston, Alice Cumpston and Madelyn Cumpston. Sister Lucy (Bud Casper) Custer of Banning, CA; Nellie (Dick) Parks of Catlettsberg, KY; Evelyn (Bob) Papenfus of Beavercreek, OH; and Rosa Lee (Ray) Vernon of Fernandino Beach, FL.

Ollie is predeceased by his wife, Lottie, and granddaughter, Annie Cumpston. Half sister Ethel (Charles) Ross; Half sister Elsie Mae Michelson, Half brother Richard (Jean) Rucker; Half brother Woodrow Rucker, and Half brother Cecil Rucker.

Ollie is remembered as a loving and generous husband and father. He loved his grandchildren dearly. He had a love for camping in the early years, spending time at his beach house in Ocean City, MD, and spending the winters in Juno Beach, FL. He enjoyed watching the Orioles and Raven’s games. Ollie was often surrounded by friends and family at parties since his playful presence was contagious.
