Norman John Caughill, a cherished member of the Bel Air community, passed away peacefully on April 11, 2024, at Brightview Assisted Living of Bel Air, at the age of 98. Born in Buffalo, New York, Norman was the beloved son of the late Fred and Edla Caughill. He was the devoted husband to the late Mary (Matthews) for over 50 years.
Norman's life was one marked by service, both to his country and his community. A proud veteran, he honorably served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, earning the respect and gratitude of his fellow countrymen. His dedication to his fellow servicemen endured throughout his life as a member of the Escort Carrier Sailors & Airmen Association, where he served as a lifelong member.
Beyond his military service, Norman was an active member of the St. Ignatius Catholic Church, finding solace and strength in his faith. He was also a valued member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Mason Dixon Post #7234 in Oceanview, Delaware, where he found camaraderie and shared experiences with fellow veterans.
In his retirement years, Norman embraced life with vigor and enthusiasm. He had a passion for travel, embarking on adventures to destinations such as the Mediterranean, Caribbean, Alaska, and the Panama Canal. Norman also found joy in the simple pleasures of life, often spending his days playing cards and enjoying the company of loved ones.
Norman leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion to his family. He is survived by his daughters, Cynthia L. Jones (Steve) and Kathleen M. Delacruz (Charlie), as well as his foster daughter Pamela Brennan (Scott). He will be deeply missed by his grandsons, Matthew Jones (Emily), Alexander Delacruz and Jack Delacruz, and granddaughters, Sherry Fones (Matt), Alison Jones, Madeleine Delacruz, and Virginia Delacruz. Norman's spirit will live on in the hearts of his great-granddaughters, Emily Fones and Elizabeth Jones.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Norman's memory can be made to St. Vincent de Paul of Baltimore, an organization close to his heart, dedicated to serving those in need.
Norman John Caughill will be remembered fondly for his unwavering commitment to his country, his community, and most importantly, his family. May his memory be a source of comfort and strength to all who knew and loved him.
