NANCY GRIFFIN HOGARTH, 72, passed away on March 11, 2006 following a lengthy illness. She was the wife of Edward L. Hogarth, Jr. of Jarrettsville, MD. She was born in Dayton, OH on December 5, 1933 to Flora Lipe Griffin and Clyde Sylvester Griffin. Mrs. Hogarth moved to Towson, MD in 1941 and became a resident of Harford County in 1958. Mr. and Mrs. Hogarth were happily married for 52 years.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include daughter, Laura Hogarth Cogswell, her husband Ted, and grandson Walker Cogswell, of Delmar, MD; daughter, Melissa T. Hogarth, and her companion, John S. Molner, of Lutherville, MD; son, Mark F. Hogarth, his wife Shirley, and granddaughter Amelia Hogarth, of Jarrettsville, MD; two granddaughters, Leslie Hogarth and Rachel Walter, of Street, MD; son, Peter W. Hogarth, his wife Karen, and grandchildren Eric Hogarth, Carlie Hogarth and Allison Hogarth of Fairfax, VA and son, Andrew G. Hogarth, his wife Jeannine, and grandchildren Zachary Hogarth, Nathanael Hogarth, Rebecca Hogarth and Kaitlyn Hogarth of Fredericksburg, VA. Two great-grandchildren, Emmett Campbell and Abigail Walter of Street, MD, also survive her.
An older brother, John N. Griffin, predeceased her.
Mrs. Hogarth graduated from Towson High School in 1951 and attended Wilson College in Chambersburg, PA until her sophomore year in college before getting married in 1953. While raising her family of five children, she returned to Harford Community College to continue her education, enabling her children to attend college. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education from Towson State College in 1972. She received her Master’s Degree, plus 20 hours, from Loyola College in Baltimore, MD. Mrs. Hogarth taught for 17 years in the Harford County Public School System before retiring in 1989. She taught fifth grade at Deerfield and Forest Hill Elementary Schools. Her last 14 years of teaching were at Forest Hill.
Mrs. Hogarth was active in community activities including Girl Scouts, 4-H and was president of the PTA. She loved to ride horses when she was younger. She preserved the family history and documented her genealogy findings, which she has passed on to her children.
