Mitchell Carson Prevatte

July 20, 1952 — January 9, 2016

Mitchell Carson PreVatte, 63, of Abingdon, MD passed away on January 9, 2016 at his home. Mitchell was born July 20, 1952 in Philadelphia, PA to the late Carson Littleton PreVatte and Margaret Raye (Kishbauch) Stierstorfer. He spent his first five years in New Jersey and then moved to Maryland. He lived in a family home on Mason Avenue in Carney and then in Parkville on Cimarron Circle. Mitch left Maryland for points west, driving a big rig across the country delivering fresh fruits and vegetables. He loved driving and always had his dog with him. "Dog Lips" knew his route and was always ready for a visit to Grandma Maggie's in Parkville.

Mitch returned to the Baltimore area in 1982. It was then that he began his course work for his bachelor's degree. Mitch worked at The Community College of Baltimore County, Essex, from 1983-1993. He took classes and worked in the IT labs. In 1993 Mitch began working at Baltimore City Community College where he continued in his IT career. He also attended The University of Baltimore where he graduated with his Bachelor's in Computer Science. In 2001 his career made a right turn to Coppin State University. It was here that he met Cindy, the love of his life. He began as the director of Network Services and completed his tenure as the Chief Security Officer, retiring from Maryland State service in 2011.

Mitchell loved to read, cook and he loved rock 'n roll, especially Pink Floyd. He was also an incredible cook, making wonderful dinners for his family every Sunday night. He was always happiest taking his Mustang Cobra or his F-250 Harley Truck apart and then putting them back together. He was fiercely loyal to his friends and to those he loved.

Mr. PreVatte is survived by his wife of eight years, Cynthia Dee PreVatte; daughters, Karsyn Lee PreVatte of White Marsh and Merideth Christine Squires of Edgewood; sisters, Beth Lynn O'Brennan of Baltimore and Deborah Lisa Siler of Wilmington, DE; niece, Christin Raye Johnson; and nephew Ryan Adam Ringger; grandnephews, Nicholas Patrick Johnson and Nathaniel Martin Johnson; and grandniece, Carley Raye Johnson.

A Memorial Service will be held at Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church, 622 Joppa Farm Road, Joppa, MD 21085 on Saturday, April 2, 2016 at 1 p.m. We are asking local folk to bring a non-dessert covered dish to share at the reception afterward.
