Mildred Guarinello was born in New York City on February 8, 1916. As a child, she enjoyed outings to parks on Sundays with her parents and siblings. After school, she worked as a bookkeeper to the Treasurer of Madison Square Garden. On October 1, 1945 she married Arthur Maus and moved to City Island, New York. On City Island she continued with her accounting career at United Boat Service and then Thwaites Inn. Life on the island was idyllic for raising their daughter, Audrey and indulging their passion for boating and swimming. She enjoyed going to the opera, the City Ballet and numerous Broadway plays with her daughter.
Millie cultivated many lasting friendships. Her home was always a warm and welcoming place. Millie especially took pleasure in holiday get-togethers with her extended family. There are many special memories shared with her sister Jeanne and husband Peter, brother Vincent and wife Gesine and their son Vince and wife Barbara, as well as her cousin Josephine and daughter Carol and husband Bob.
Millie and Bill retired to Greenbriar Homes in Brick, NJ in 1979. She continued to be very active by swimming and walking. She joined the Golden Tones Choir and the Square Dance and Shuffleboard Clubs. Summers were spent happily bonding with her grandchildren.
Millie traveled extensively throughout her life. She visited the Midwest, Washington DC, Florida, Jamaica, Italy, cruised to Alaska, the Caribbean and through the Panama Canal.
After a stroke in 2001, she moved to Maryland to be with Audrey. During the last 11 years of her life, she drew strength from attending family celebrations including the weddings of her grandchildren, and the birth, baptisms and birthdays of her great-grandchildren.
She was the last surviving child of the late Antonietta and Giovanni. Three siblings, Jeanne, Vincent and Regina predeceased her. She is survived by her daughter Audrey and son-in-law Erik, her grandson Erik and wife, Alison, her granddaughter Elisa and husband Michael, and her 5 great-grandchildren.
Millie always lived life to its fullest. She positively impacted many lives and will be missed greatly. Memories of her are to be cherished.
Mildred's spirit lives on in her family.
