Mike Dean, age 59, of Abingdon, MD, died after a long courageous battle with cancer, on September 2, 2010 at Stella Maris Hospice in Timonium, MD. Born in Meadville, PA, he was the son of the late Gerald Arthur Dean and Marie Allman Dean. A 1969 graduate of Shaw High School in East Cleveland, OH, he joined the Navy during the Vietnam War, from which he was honorably discharged. He worked with the phone company for 38 years, retiring in 2008. He was a union representative for CWA, as well as, a lobbyist and arbitrator for the union. A lifelong member of the Methodist church, he was currently active at Smith's Chapel United Methodist. An avid Steelers and Orioles fan, he was a baseball coach, Boy Scout Leader, and loved to cook.
Mr. Dean is survived by his wife, Laura Lee Dean of Abingdon, MD; sons, Christopher Dean and wife, Bridget, of Carteret, NJ, and Daniel Dean of IN; daughters, Margaret Dean and Rebecca Powell, and husband Jason, all of Essex, MD, and Michelle Huntley of TX; sisters, Vickie Rogers and husband, Clinton, of Severn, MD and Melody Wooten of Massillon, OH; five grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
