Michael Stephen Mullen was born on February 23, 1985, in Baltimore, Maryland to the union of the Paul Vandy Mullen Jr. and Gail Patricia Mullen. He departed this life on Monday, April 25, 2022.
Michael “Superman” or “Big Mike” accepted Christ as his personal Savior at an early age. Mike was baptized at the Cathedral Church of St. Paul, Detroit Michigan. Michael was taught his Christian training at Union United Methodist Church, Aberdeen, MD, John Wesley United Methodist Church, Abingdon, MD, Zweibrucken Army Base Chapel, Zweibrucken, Germany, and the APG Chapel, Aberdeen, Maryland. He completed his elementary education at Prospect Mills Elementary, Churchville, secondary education Bel Air Middle School, and Bel Air High School where he graduated in 2003. Michael began study at Harford Community College and completed the four-year HVAC Apprenticeship program. Michael’s employment history exemplified his desire to learn and excel in his work while continuing his ambition to learn. He was always motivated and loved to undertake hard projects. He was always praised on exhibiting a good character and work performance. Whatever he set his mind to he was determined to get it done.
He started working as a teenager at KFC/Taco Bell and then at the Forest Hill Veterinary Clinic. As an adult he worked for Allan Myers Construction at BWI Airport, before going to work for CSC Service Works as a Machine Technician/Rebuilder and Field Service Technician. He enjoyed troubleshooting mechanical and technological repairs and working in a territory that encompassed Washington D.C., Maryland, Delaware, and parts of Pennsylvania.
Michael was a practical joker and had a generous heart of gold. He loved people and never hesitated to help others. As a pre-teen Michael began signing his name as Michael “Superman” Mullen. Stories of Michael’s antics as a child included being found sitting in the middle of a creek with his dog on his grandmother’s farm, shooting out grandma’s windows with his homemade sling shot, climbing trees, and getting stuck, rewiring the talking Christmas tree to play Tupac and Biggie, and he even shrink wrapped every toilet in the house, (yes, he caught his dad with that one). He always was just a big kid at heart. His nieces, nephews, and cousins adored him along with the children of his closest friends. Mike and his brother PJ shared a special bond and were not only brothers but best friends, he especially enjoyed escapades with Rene and Delano. Big Mike was the self-proclaimed fun “Brother, Uncle, Cousin, and Nephew”. Mike’s love of home cooking was well known. He loved his grandmother’s mac and cheese, Aunt Melody’s potato salad, Aunt Lennette’s banana pudding, Aunt Joan’s collard greens and especially Aunt Glenda’s traditional Filipino lumpia’s. Mike was an avid fisherman and loved fishing year-round with his brother PJ, his dad, his Uncle Alonzo, and all the kids in the family. While traveling with his fishing pole and tackle box in his vehicle just in case he had the opportunity to stop and fish whenever possible. Big Mike’s interests ran the creative gamut, and his love of music showed with his collaboration of Exit77. His love of hip hop, rap, R & B, gospel, and soul spanned generations. He also enjoyed a passion for sports. The Detroit Lions and the Detroit Tigers were his favorite teams. Mike would tell stories of sneaking on the Ohio State football field wearing a Michigan jersey, fun times swimming with family, taking the kids to state fairs and letting them put a bright pink wig on him for Halloween. He had a love for art and painting projects. And Mike absolutely loved his dog Max (his best friend). Big Mike was a wonderful son, younger brother, friend, and he touched the lives of so many people. Everyone was his friend. Mike represented the good that we all need every day in our lives. So, we are proud to have received God’s blessing calling Mike our son, brother, uncle, cousin, nephew, and friend. His spirit will continue within each of us.
