Michael Scott Sauers passed away on July 24, 2014 at the age of 52. Born in Havre de Grace; he was the son of Virginia Hamby Sauers and the late James Edward Sauers. He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Patti Anne Sauers, and his daughter Emily A. Grafton and husband Webster, and his son Scott T. Sauers, all of Bel Air, MD. He is also survived by his sisters, Michele Sauers of Bel Air, Marjorie Churn and husband Dave of Darlington, and Meredeth Miller and husband Lance of Mt. Wolf, PA.
Michael enjoyed time spent with his four nieces, six nephews, three great nieces, cousins, and extended family members, including John and Jeanette Sauers, Warren and Jean Voss, and Joseph and Jeanne Kidd. Raised in Benson, MD he graduated from Bel Air High School in 1979. Life-long friendships from youth and vocations remained a vital part of his life. Michael began working at Kunkel Service Co. of Bel Air under the guidance of his father and managed the retail counter for over 20 yrs. He enjoyed decorating the store windows for Christmas and was featured on local news program: "Maryland By George" for his artistic renditions. Michael also worked at Norlee Art Gallery with his Grandfather Hamby. He was a well-known local artist. His flora and fauna themed works were in mediums of Prismacolor, charcoal, water color and oil paintings. His talent was God-given.
He devoted many hours to his beloved hobbies; metal detecting, lettering license plates and vehicles, and collecting garage memorabilia and old gas pumps. His recent immobility led him to a love of coin collecting, marionette restoration, and reminiscing with friends of the Crusin' lifestyle in his '66 Chevy. A member of the '65/'66 Full Size Chevy Club, he enjoyed restoring classic cars and owned over 27 of them in his life time. He was also a member of Fallston Presbyterian Church.
Pallbearers were; Douglas Struve, Sam Sauers, Chris Corrnetto, David Churn, Richard Scheach, Norman Grafton, Robert Alexander, and Andrew Prevette. Honorary pallbearers were; Thomas Sullivan, David Hardwick, Lance Miller, and Angelo Janouris.
