Michael Dennis Blount (Mike), 66, of Bel Air, MD, peacefully passed away on April 14, 2015 at his home surrounded by family. Born in Hahira, GA, he is the son of Faye Nelson Blount of Bel Air, MD and the late William Smith Blount. Mike graduated Harford Junior College and he began work at the US Army Ordnance Center and School. He was then employed at Aberdeen Proving Ground in the Ballistics Research Laboratory as a Physical Science Technician and ballistics expert. Mike retired from the Department of Defense in 2006. He immediately returned to the same position as a contractor, finally retiring in 2012. Known for his kindness and humor he loved being with friends and family. Mike, with his lifelong engineering mind, was forever assembling and disassembling anything and everything, whether it needed it or not. He loved to travel and explore, and also loved boating, hiking and being outdoors. Mike and Cara enjoyed cruises and travel, visiting places like Australia, Alaska, Panama, and Hawaii, just to name a few. Mike was also a voracious reader, and could easily recall everything he read.
In addition to his mother Faye, Mr. Blount is survived by his wife of 42 years, Cara T. (Todd) Blount, his son, Todd M. Blount and companion, Angela Easley, of Abingdon; siblings Debbie Richards and husband, Russ, of Dewey Beach, DE., Gary Blount and wife, Sharon, of Bel Air and Bill Blount and wife, Shawna, of Challis, ID, and his doting sister-in-law, Linda Todd Smith of Bel Air, MD.
