MERRELL “BUGGS” L. GRAFTON, age 86, of Bel Air, MD, died on July 13, 2007 at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center, Bel Air, MD. Born in Sharon, MD, he was the son of the late Merrell John and Bessie Lee Bailey Grafton. An army veteran, he served our country during WWII. He graduated from Bel Air High School and the University of Maryland, where he played soccer and baseball. He started the first Harford county football team at Havre de Grace High School in 1947 and also taught physical education and coached at Edgewood High School. He was Camp Director at Broad Creek Memorial Scout Reservation and farmed for many years. An avid golfer, he belonged to the senior league at Geneva Farms and he enjoyed traveling. He was a member of Centre United Methodist Church and the Edgewood Lions Club and he owned and operated the Carvel Ice Cream stores in Edgewood and Bel Air.
Mr. Grafton is survived by his wife of sixty years, Dorothy L. Ensor Grafton of Bel Air, MD; two sons, Stephen J. Grafton and his wife, Phyllis, of Trappe, MD, and Stacey L. Grafton and his wife, Mary Ann, of Forest Hill, MD; two daughters, Sharon L. Barranco and her husband, Samuel, of Whiteford, MD, and S. Lynn Blom and her husband, Reed, of Forest Hill, MD; one sister, Nancy Fitzpatrick of Bel Air, MD; ten grandchildren, Elizabeth “Betsy” Blom of Baltimore, MD, Jaime Cooper and her husband, Chris, of Mooresville, NC, SGT. Stephen Grafton who is in the United States Army currently serving in Afghanistan, Eric Blom and his wife, Amy, of Townsend, DE, Helen Grafton, Kathryn Grafton, and Alison Grafton, all of Forest Hill, MD, Danette Richmond and her husband, Tim, of Perryville, MD, Denise Sealy and her husband, Chris, of Whiteford, MD, Dianna Skrocki and her husband, Michael, of Whiteford, MD; and a great-grandson, Alexander Grant Grafton, of Wye Mills, MD.
