Melvin T. Carter, age 89, of Joppa, MD, died on March 24, 2009 at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air, MD. Born in Baltimore, MD, he was the son of the late George Herbert and Marie Gladys Wohrna Carter and husband of the late Adele Edna Soistman Carter. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served our country during WWII at the Battle of the Bulge. After the war, he worked for Glenn L. Martin for 25 years. He then worked at Koppers as a machinist, where he manufactured machine parts, retiring from there after 22 years. He enjoyed going to yard sales and vegetable gardening. He also loved taking walks and watching western movies.
Mr. Carter is survived by his son, Thomas M. Carter and wife, Pat, of Joppa, MD; daughter, Joyce Irene Ross and husband, James, of Abingdon, MD; five grandchildren, Thomas M. Carter III of Abingdon, MD, Jason W. Carter of Nottingham, MD, David A. DeVane of Havre de Grace, MD, Tracie M. Goff of Aberdeen, MD, and Michael J. DeVane of Abingdon, MD; and four great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Thomas M. Carter III, Jason W. Carter, David A. DeVane, Michael J. DeVane, Reginald E. Gill, and Graham M. Golf.
