Melvin Raymond Kulis

March 18, 1927 — March 25, 2011

Melvin Raymond Kulis, age 84, of Bel Air, MD, died on March 25, 2011 at his home. Born in Baltimore, MD, he was the son of the late Stanley and Magdalena Pospychala Kulis and husband of the late Ann Kulis. A veteran of the U.S. Navy, he served as a Ship's Service Man (L)3/C at NTC Bainbridge, MD, NTS Newport, RI, USS Tidewater. He received a European Theatre Ribbon, American Theater Ribbon and a Victory Medal. He retired from the Chesapeake and Potomac Phone Company after 37 years and from APG Telecommunications in 1993. He served as a volunteer fireman for over 50 years at the Wise Avenue, Baltimore, Jarrettsville and Bel Air Volunteer Fire Companies and was later inducted into the Harford and Cecil County Hall of Fame in 2007. A member of American Legion Post 39 for 23 years, he was also a member of the VFW Post 6506 in Rosedale, MD, The Destroyer Escort Association, St. Margaret Catholic Church in Bel Air, MD and also attended Mary Magdalen Mission Church where he served as a Eucharistic minister.

Mr. Kulis is survived by a son, Gregory Kulis of Bel Air, MD; daughters, Valerie K. Sommer of Abingdon, MD, Monica Kulis of Bel Air, MD and Angela K. Fowler and husband, Mark A. of Seven Valleys, PA; brothers, Stanley Kulis of Street, MD and Richard Kulis of Baltimore, MD; sister, Beatrice Grabowski of Monkton, MD; and grandchildren, Joshua Patrick Kulis of Galtizen, PA, Brianna Elizabeth and David Andrew Fowler, both of Seven Valleys, PA. In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by four siblings, Edward Kulis, Veronica Nesulin, Florence Lebert, and Bertha Ross.

Pallbearers will be Richard Presberry, Donald MacLean, Walter Kulis, Raymond Kulis, and Gregory Kulis.
