Melvin R. Hollar, age 83, of Bel Air, MD, passed away on February 2, 2014 at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air, MD. Born in Hickory, NC, he was the son of the late Obed Craig and Lula Cora Kaylor Hollar and husband of the late Margaret L. Hollar. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he was a member of American Legion Post #39 in Bel Air and Moose Lodge #1952 in Forest Hill. He owned and operated J.C .Wood Products which manufactured crab mallets for seafood restaurants. He enjoyed The Orioles, Ravens and college basketball. He especially enjoyed shooting shuffleboard with his friends from the Moose Lodge.
Mr. Hollar is survived by his son, James Craig Hollar and wife, Deanna, of Bel Air; daughter, Rhonna J. Murgatroyd of Bel Air; brother, Kenneth Hollar of Hickory, NC; sister, Gladys Mullen of Hickory, NC; and two grandchildren, Casey M. Hollar and Lisa Marie Murgatroyd, both of Bel Air. In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by his brother, Richard Hollar; and sisters, Mary E. Sipe, Eunice Miller and Joyce Liebelt.
Pallbearers will be Craig Hollar, Tom Coby, Sonny Hege, Tim Remines, Warren Rosenthal, Jonathan Mullen and Joel Mullen.
Contributions in memory of Mr. Hollar may be made to Mount Tabor United Methodist Church, 2350 Conowingo Road, Bel Air, Maryland 21015.
