MELVIN FREDERICK HENNING, age 87, of Bel Air, MD, died on October 27, 2007 at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air. Born in Baltimore, MD, he was the son of the late Frederick W. and Mamie Ott Henning and husband of the late Jean Marguerite Henning. He worked for Enterprise Oil Company for 37 years where he was a driver and dispatcher. An avid tennis player, in 1936 he went to the quarter finals of the Sun Paper tennis championship at Patterson Park in Baltimore. In his younger years, he loved to play soccer, tennis, and basketball. He was very active at Trinity Lutheran Church and was a longtime Baltimore Colts, Ravens and Oriole’s fan. He was a 32 degree Mason in the John H. B. Latrobe Lodge and was an avid gardener known for his tomatoes.
Mr. Henning is survived by a son, Steven S. Henning and his wife, Sharon A. Henning, of Darlington, MD; two daughters, Nancy J. Charvat and her husband, James R. Charvat, of Abingdon, MD, and Denise L. Lynch and her husband, Richard D. Lynch, of Bel Air, MD; sisters-in-law, Lynn Henning of Delaware, Crystal McWilliams of Baltimore, MD and Joyce Smith of Joppatowne, MD; two grandchildren, Jessica Comegys of Darlington, MD and Jason Comegys of Dundalk, MD; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by six siblings.
