Melvin Claudius Lumpkin, III, age 79, of Bel Air, MD passed away on September 30, 2018 at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air. Born in Baltimore, MD, he was the son of the late Melvin Claudius and Alice May (Mooney) Lumpkin. He was a graduate of Baltimore Polytechnic Institute and he was a U.S. Air Force veteran. He retired at age 52 from Bethlehem Steel after 31 years of service. He enjoyed traveling and spending time with his wife, Arlene. They made eight 1 month trips to the West exploring different areas. He was very handy and built his first home from the bottom up. He was an auto enthusiast and worked at his uncle's gas station for many years. Melvin also liked spending time in Atlantic City.
Mr. Lumpkin is survived by his wife of 58 years, Arlene Elizabeth Lumpkin; daughter, Renee' Gray and her husband Steve Schott, of Bel Air; son, David M. Lumpkin of Middle River; sister, Laverne Kaczmarek and her husband, Edward, of Parkville; two granddaughters, Sarah Martin and Deana Lumpkin; four grandsons, Andrew Gray, Nicholas Gray, Matthew Gray and Daniel Lumpkin; great-grandchildren, Ben and Lexi Martin; and sister-in-law, Frances Fitch of Seven Valleys, PA.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Nancy Ann Phillips.
