Mel L. Jeffers, age 68, of Abingdon, MD, died on October 20, 2010 at his home. Born in Baltimore, MD, he was the son of the late Paul Joseph and Gladys Mae Stagge Jeffers. A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, he had worked in the healthcare industry for 23 years and was employed by Radamerica (Med Star). Active in the music ministry at Emmorton Baptist church, he sang in the choir and performed solos and duets. He loved his work, yard sales, auctions, crabbing and ballroom dancing with his wife Janet.
Mr. Jeffers is survived by his wife, Janet Marie Knauff Jeffers of Abingdon, MD; son, Steven Jeffers and his wife, Darlene, of Taneytown, PA; daughter, Debbie Jeffers of Littlestown, PA; stepchildren, James King and his wife, Linda, of San Antonio, TX, John King and Julie Long and her husband, Bill, of Perry Hall, MD; sister, Edna Mae Ralls of Perry Hall, MD; sister-in-law Jackie Benenati of St. Petersburg, FL; thirteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Chuck Patterson, Steve Jeffers, Jim King, Bill Long, Jay and Mark Turansky.
