The Reverend Maurice Arthur Arsenault, 87, of Westminster, MD and formerly Bel Air, MD passed away the morning of January, 11, 2025.
Born on November 18, 1937 in Springfield, MA he was the son of the late John and Irene (Vezina) Arsenault. Maurice “Maury” is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Dorothy (Mathias) Arsenault, his two daughters, Renee Rollison and Colette Arsenault, and his four grandchildren, Kevin E. Dorsey Jr., Erin (Rollison) Hammacher, Cassondra Dorsey, and Thomas Rollison. He is also survived by three sisters, Constance Minnie of Wilbraham, MA, Mildred Leroux of Agawam, MA and Rita Spencer of Longmeadow, MA. Maury is predeceased in death by a sister, Eleona Reed Avery, Waterford, CT and a brother, Phillip LeBlanc of Springfield, MA.
Maury received a BA degree from Western Maryland College in 1961, attended Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington DC in 1965, was ordained by the Maryland Lutheran Synod, and received his MS from Loyola College in Baltimore in 1980. Maury served at Trinity Lutheran Church in Taneytown, MD, Good Shepard Lutheran Church in Bel Air, MD, Hershey Medical Center in Hershey, PA, and Woodsboro Evangelical and Chapel in Woodsboro, MD. In addition to pouring his heart and soul into 34 years of ministry and service to his congregations, Maury never left behind the teachings of Christ. Some of his achievements were actively promoting worldwide outreach by sponsoring the African Children’s Choir, volunteering at Harford Family House, serving as a board member to establish the Baltimore Fuel Fund, participating in study groups and Synod activities at Carroll Lutheran Village, and together with his wife, he devoted several years of missionary work for “On Eagle’s Wings” ministry in Ulukhaktok, Canada.
Maury enjoyed traveling the world, stamp and coin collecting, spending time with his family, camping, participating in “dining out groups” with friends, reading newspapers and history books, attending symphonies, and photography. Maury was charismatic, great-hearted, and always had a good sense of humor.
A worship service will be held on Friday, January 24, 2025, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Aberdeen, MD. Visitation will be 10:00-10:30 am and the service will begin at 10:30 am.
