Matthew Ryan Smith, age 52, a beloved resident of Monkton, Maryland, passed away on January 27, 2024. Born in Baltimore, Maryland, he was the cherished son of William Sidney Smith and the late Marcia Jean (Ditchkus) Carlen. Matthew was the devoted husband of Elise Michele (Gentry) Smith and a proud veteran of the U.S. Army.

Matthew loved the outdoors, especially the beach and ocean.  He was an avid fisherman and found extreme happiness in the solitude of Hatteras Island, NC.  He had a profound appreciation for everything nature had to offer. His compassion extended to his furry friends, as he was a huge animal lover and proud dog dad.

Beyond his love for nature, Matthew held a passion for everything with wheels, whether kicking up dirt on the trails or traveling endless miles, he found peace in the thrill of the ride.

Matthew is survived by his loving wife, Elise and their three adored daughters, Alexis Leigh Smith, Aden Grace Smith, and Ava Grace Smith, grand-daughters Elizabeth Ellen Edwards and McKinley Morgan Ukura, and brother Jason William Smith, with whom he shared endless memories and adventures. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and countless cherished friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Matthew's honor to the Klein Family Center. https://www.uchfoundation.org/make-a-gift/?utm_campaign=website-link&utm_medium=organic&utm_source=local-listing
