Mason O. Heaps

Mason O. Heaps, age 75, of Abingdon, MD, died on November 23, 2008 at his home. Born in Peach Bottom, PA, he was the son of the late Robert Orel and Sarah Jane Norris Heaps. A veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, he served two years in Iceland during the Korean War and was a member of the Army Reserve for 8 years. He worked for Aberdeen Proving Grounds for 47 years and retired in 2002 from the Aberdeen Test Center. An avid golfer, he was a fan of the Ravens and the Orioles, and coached Little League from 1964 until 1979. A family man, he loved his wife, children, and his grandchildren.

Mr. Heaps is survived by his wife, Nora Belle Deel Heaps of Abingdon, MD; five children, James M. Heaps and wife, Deborah, of Los Angeles, CA, Michael L. Heaps of Abingdon, MD, Kimberly Hammel and husband, Steven, of Joppa, MD, Deborah Carlevaro and husband, Gregg, of Bel Air, MD, and Earl L. Heaps of Havre de Grace, MD; sisters, Ethel Mills of Bear, DE and Jean Rhodes of Forest Hill, MD; grandchildren, Craig Hammel and wife, Deanna, Jonathan Hammel, Sarah Hammel, Tiffany Heaps, Evan Heaps, Maxwell Heaps, Alexa Carlevaro, Austin Carlevaro, Jordan Heaps; and great-grandchildren, Kianna Raye Clark, Savanna Poe, and Sierra Poe.
