Mary V. Riley

MARY VIRGINIA GRAFTON RILEY, of Bel Air, MD, died September 29, 2005 of cardiac arrest at her home. She was 92,

Born August 21, 1913 in Forest Hill, MD she was the daughter of the late Elwood and May Ward Grafton. Her mother died in the influenza epidemic of 1918.

Before retiring at the age of 75, she was a housekeeper for the B.H. Griswold famly on My Lady’s Manor for 40 years, where she was known as “Rile”

For 57 years, Mrs. Riley was a member of the Jarrettsville Grange and a congregant of Ebenezer United Methodist Church of Fallston, MD.

She moved to Bel Air in 1988 and joined the Golden Age Club and AARP. She enjoyed travels to Ireland, Greece, and the Soviet Union as well as throughout the United States. She was an avid Orioles fan.

She was predeceased by her husband, George Riley, Sr. in 1974 and by brothers, Hall and Eugene Grafton, and a sister, Ruby Knopp.

Survivors include by two sons, George Riley, Jr. and his wife, Gail, of Manchester, MD and Ed Riley and his wife, Anna Mary of Delta, PA; two daughters, Dorothy Rosenberger and her husband, Harold, of Waynesboro, PA and Ann Riley of Bel Air, MD; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bill and Mildred Riley, and sister-in-law, Bell Riley Hess.
