Mary Osborne Harkins

May 16, 1915 — March 3, 2010

Mary Osborne Harkins, age 94, of Parkville, MD, died on March 3, 2010 at Oak Crest Village in Baltimore, MD. Born on Cool Spring Farm in Harford County, she was one of eleven children of the late Muncie and Delray Graybeal Osborne, and wife of the late Walter B. Harkins. Growing up on the Osborne Farm in Forest Hill, she graduated from Bel Air High, and retired from Harford County Public Schools, where she taught 3rd grade at Forest Hill Elementary. An active member of Centre Methodist Church in Forest Hill, she enjoyed gardening, traveling, and playing bridge. She was a part of a women's group called the "Towson 10" which were women who all graduated from Towson University and who taught at schools in Harford County. Known as "Nana" to all her grandchildren, she moved to Oak Crest Retirement Community in 1997 with her husband, Walter, whose death occurred in 2001.

Mrs. Harkins is survived by her son, Walter Herbert Harkins and wife, Patti, of Forest Hill, MD; daughters, Kathleen McLean Welch and husband, Jim, of Bel Air, MD, Rebecca Ann Brocato and husband, Bill, of Parkville, MD, and Marilyn Joan Cothran and husband, Jim, of Atlanta, GA; brother, William Osborne of Westminster, MD; sisters, Maybelle Smith of VA and Ruth Guttery of KS; nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her brothers, Bryan Osborne, Winton Osborne, Ray Osborne, Carlyle Osborne, and Bert Osborne; and sisters, Carol Hackett and Estelle Hinton.

Pallbearers will be Andrew McLean, Bradley McLean, Walter Marchewka, Christopher Harkins, Patrick Augustin, and Dave Thomas.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Centre United Methodist Church, PO Box 55, Forest Hill, MD 21050.
