Mary Ellen O'Neill

Mary Ellen (Dalton) O’Neill, of Fountain Green, died July 31, 2023, at Avondell Assisted Living, in Bel Air. She was 90 years old.  She was born in Harford County, Maryland on Moores Road.  She was raised on a farm that is now a Maryland state park on the Dalton-Bevard Road.  

She graduated from Bel Air High School, in 1951, and first worked for the Courtland Hardware in Bel Air and later worked at Edgewood Arsenal.  She married Dan O’Neill of Bel Air, and they were married for 66 years at the time of his death, in January 2022. After she was married, she worked for the Air Defense Center, Ft Bliss Texas before returning to Bel Air to raise their family.

Mary Ellen is survived by her son Mark O’Neill and wife Anya of Belcamp, MD, her daughter Mary Lynn Bowers and husband Steve of Havre de Grace, her brother Robert Dalton and his wife Janet of Bel Air, MD, her grandsons, Mathew O’Neill, Philip O’Neill and Nickolas Bowers, along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins. 

In addition to her husband, Mary Ellen was predeceased by her mother Ethel Dalton, her father Charles Dalton, Sr., her sisters Elizabeth Saunders and Lucile Hamby, her brothers Charles Dalton, Jr. and Tom Dalton, and her son Howard O’Neill of Kenna WV.

Mary Ellen enjoyed playing tennis, tending to her flowers and shrubs and sitting on her screened-in porch watching the birds, squirrels and rabbits. She dearly loved her grandsons and enjoyed hearing about all their activities.
