Mary Metzler Stephen

Mary Metzler Stephen, age 96, of Bel Air, MD departed this life to be with her heavenly Father on September 6, 2013 at the Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air after suffering a stroke. Born in Martinsburg, PA, she was the daughter of the late Isaac Kreider and Laura Durr Metzler and wife of 57 years to the late H. Carl Stephen Sr. She was a homemaker and helped start and run her husband's homebuilding business, as well as a volunteer at Fallston General and Upper Chesapeake Hospital for 34 years. She was a member of the Long Green Valley Church of the Brethren, where she sang in the choir, was active in the Ladies Fellowship and a strong supporter of many outreach programs, such as The Family Crisis Center of Dundalk and the Dundalk Food Pantry. She also volunteered at the Brethren Service Center in New Windsor, MD. She was an avid quilter. She also loved crossword puzzles, reading, house plants, and gardening and enjoyed bird watching at her backyard feeders.

Mrs. Stephen is survived by her sons, Dale T. Stephen and wife, Betty D. of Bel Air, Donald R. Stephen of Belcamp and Harry C. Stephen Jr. and wife, Joanne, of Baldwin MD.; sister, Katherine Bowser of Grantsville, MD.; grandchildren, D. Todd Stephen and wife, Patti, of Bel Air, Lauren C. Scarborough and husband, Michael, of Bel Air, Gregory E. Stephen of Las Vegas, NV, Alison L. Stephen and husband Troy McCullough of Hong Kong, and Brian A. and Sarah E. Stephen, both of Baldwin, MD.; great grandchildren, Evan Scarborough of Bel Air and Abigail and Elijah Stephen, both of Bel Air; and step great grandchildren David, Michael and Steven Prichard, all of Bel Air.

She was predeceased by six siblings; Myrtle King of Harrisonburg, VA., Elwood Metzler of Curryville, PA., Isaac K Metzler Jr. of Cumberland, MD., Edith Weaver of Harrisonburg, VA., Wilbur Metzler of Sarasota, FL., and Grace Miller of Harrisonburg, VA.
