Mary Elizabeth Johnson, age 101, of Bel Air, Maryland, passed away peacefully on September 20, 2024, at Amazing Grace Assisted Living in Bel Air, Maryland. Born in Fallston, Maryland, she was the beloved daughter of the late John and Bertha Stanley and the devoted wife of the late Norman(“Hope”) Johnson. They were married 59 years. 

Familiar to most as Mary Lee, she attended Bel Air Elementary and High School where she formed lifelong friendships. After graduation, she worked at Preston's Stationery for several years. Later, she worked for Harford County government in the office of the Director of Administration for 17 years until her retirement in 1978. A dedicated community member, Mary Lee was actively involved with the American Cancer Society and served in several capacities over many years. 

Her pastimes included gardening, sewing, and golf. She had a zest for life, traveling to all 50 states and extensively throughout Europe. Mary Lee was a loving mother and mother-in-law. She was known for her sweet nature, kindness and gift of hospitality. Her love of baking was a blessing to family and friends. She will be dearly missed. 

Mary Lee is survived by her daughter-in-law, Julia Ringgold Strong and stepchildren, Madeline L. Soviero, and Nathan O. Lewis, and step grandchild, Zayden S. Lewis, in addition to extended family members. Mary Lee was pre-deceased by her sister, Marguerite Wimmer, brother, H. Morgan Stanley and daughter-in-law, Donna J. Johnson. Her only son, Carl Morgan Johnson, died in 2018.
