Mary Claire Hauer

Mary Claire Hauer, age 71, of Monkton, MD passed away on October 13, 2023 at Johns Hopkins Medical Center. Born in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late John and Nancy Sandvick (née Litz) and wife of V. Kenneth Hauer. Claire was a lifetime learner, avid reader, and health enthusiast. She earned her B.A. in Biology from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. She then earned her B.S. in Electrical Engineering and her M.S. in Biotechnology, both from Johns Hopkins University. She worked at Johns Hopkins University followed by the University of Maryland, Baltimore in Microbiology research. In her retirement, she served as a research volunteer at the Anita C. Leight Estuary Center. Most recently, she was enjoying Spanish classes at the Jacksonville Senior Center. Claire also loved the fine arts, and was especially fond of her time playing piano and performing ballet.

In addition to her husband, Claire is survived by her sons, Ryan Hauer (Whitney) and Michael Hauer; grandchildren Genevieve and Wyatt; sisters Elise Kelly (Kevin) and Jeanne Sandvick (Kevin); brothers John Sandvick (Patricia) and Paul Sandvick (Sherri) and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Claire was a devout Catholic and member of the St. Joseph Parish in Cockeysville, MD. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her name at https://sjpmd.org/memory to the St. Joseph Parish.

The funeral mass will be celebrated at the Catholic Community of St. Francis Xavier, 13717 Cuba Rd, Cockeysville, MD 21030 on Saturday, October 28, 2023 at 10 AM. The Mass will be preceded by Visitation at 9 AM.
