MARY GUNTHER TILLEY, of Bel Air died on February 19, 2005 at the home of her son, Dennis M. Tilley of Forest Hill following a two year battle with ovarian cancer. She was 79.
Born August 7, 1925 in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late A. Melvin Gunther and Mary E. Gunther of Cambridge, and the beloved wife for 40 years of the late Emory F. Tilley.
Raised in Long Green, she spent her youth as an active member of the Long Green Valley Church of the Brethern and the local 4-H club.
A graduate of Towson High School, she held jobs at Corbin Ice Company, Harford Mutual Insurance Company, the Hub, and retired after 24 years of service at First Virginia Bank.
She was an active member of Mt.
Zion United Methodist Church and a choir member for over 30 years.
Mrs. Tilley is survived by two sons, Richard E. Tilley and his wife, Jeanie of Street; Dennis M. Tilley and his best friend, Sherry M. Ingram of Forest Hill; a granddaughter, Melissa R. Tilley of Bel Air; two sisters, Margaret G. Valiant of Catonsville; Lillie Mae Stammer of White Hall; a brother, Charles M. Gunther of Cambridge, MD. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was predeceased by one daughter-in-law, Joanie S. Tilley, the late wife of Dennis M. Tilley and mother of Melissa R. Tilley.
Active pallbearers will be: Richard Tilley, Dennis Tilley, Mark Tilley, Gary Stammer, Ahmad Parvizian, and John Richardson. Honorary pallbearers will be: Dr. Larry Tilley, Steve Tilley, Roy Hutchins, and Earl Deaner.
