MARY ELLEN LEWIS, age 85, of Edgewood, MD, died on December 27, 2007 at Forest Hill Health and Rehabilitation in Forest Hill. Born in Falling Springs, WV, she was the daughter of the late Nathaniel David and Priscilla Workman Lane and wife of the late John Woodrow Lewis. She worked at Bata Shoe Company as a sewing machine operator where she retired after 25 years. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and traveling. She was a member of Upper Falls Rebekah Lodge # 78 IOOF and Ladies Auxiliary Post # 5337 Abingdon VFW.
Mrs. Lewis is survived by two sons, James Dean Lewis of Edgewood, MD and John Wayne Lewis and his wife, Brenda, of Abingdon, MD; a daughter, Linda G. Wheatley and her husband, Gary, of Lutz, FL; four stepbrothers, James Lane of York, PA, Richard Lane, Ronald Lane, and Glenn Lane, all of Airville, PA; stepsisters, Edna Pepler of York, PA and Rachael Sarti of Berkley Springs, WV; three grandchildren and six great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by one son, Albert Franklin Lewis; six brothers, John, Henry, Joseph, Silas, Calvin and Alfred Lane; three step brothers, Roy Dean, Ray and Robert Lane; stepsister, Rosie Haugh; and stepmother, Patty Booth Lane.
Pallbearers were Calvin Lane, Donald Lane, Larry Sarti, Jimmy Gilley, Howard Lewis, and Linwood Lane. Honorary pallbearers were Robert Haugh and Bill Lasley.
