Mary Elizabeth Petty

February 1, 1926 — May 26, 2010

Mary Elizabeth Petty, age 84, of Street, MD, passed away on May 26, 2010. Born in Norrisville, MD, she was the daughter of the late Roy Amos and Emma Jane Webb Smithson and the wife, for 62 years, of the late Cecil Franklin Petty. A long-time member of New Bridge Baptist Church, she attended church faithfully until poor health rendered her unable to make the trip. She provided day care at her home for many years and became affectionately known as Mom-Mom or Aunt Mary by her many daycare children. Her hobbies included cooking and traveling to such destinations as Europe and Hawaii. She loved going to the beach, always having children in-tow for some fun in the sun.

Mrs. Petty is survived by her son, Ronald C. Petty and wife, Glenda, of Havre de Grace, MD; granddaughters, Sara C. Oswald and husband, Paul, of Pylesville, MD, and Jenna K. Mahoney and husband, Patrick, of Aviano Air Base in Aviano, Italy; two great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn E. and Evan P. Oswald of Pylesville, MD; a brother, Robert B. "Pat" Smithson of White Hall, MD; and a sister, B. Marie DeRan of Street, MD.
Services were held at New Bridge Baptist Church on Monday, May 31, 2010, officiated by Elders James F. Wyatt, Clarence Rowland, and Homer Hanson, Jr. Serving as pallbearers were R. Colby Bearch, Larry Smithson, Garry Smithson, James Kundratic, Brandon Smithson, and Paul Oswald. Interment was in the adjoining church cemetery.
