Mary E. Mayes

MARY E. “BETTY” MAYES, age 83, of Joppa, MD, died on January 30, 2007, at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air, MD. Born in Joppa Magnolia, MD, she was the daughter of the late Harold T. Bishop and the late Gladys E. Timmons Bishop-Miles and wife of the late Charles Hoerr Mayes Sr. As a beautician, she worked for Ruth’s Beauty Shop, in Bel Air, for over 15 years. She enjoyed going to Atlantic City, playing Bingo and reading. She loved animals and her family, especially her children and grandchildren.

Mrs. Mayes is survived by five children; Charles H. Mayes Jr. of Stevensville, MD, Michael Tim Mayes Sr. and his wife, Mary A. Mayes of Orlando, FL, Margaret E. Tuerk of Parkville, MD, Robert Lee Mayes of Fallston, MD, and Alice L. Rabuck and her husband, Jack A. Rabuck Sr. of Joppa, MD; half-brother, James Bishop of Glen Burnie, MD; half-sister, Mary Bishop of Salisbury, MD; niece, Bonnie L. Glass of Baltimore, MD; nephew, John Vogtman Jr. of Arnold, MD; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a brother and a sister.
