Mary Blevins Ayers was born in Crumpler, NC on July 10, 1920, the only child of the late Floyd and Nellie Taylor Blevins. She passed away on December 7, 2017 at the age of 97. She graduated from Nathans Creek High School in 1938. She came to Bel Air to work at the Del Haven Hotel, which is now the Del Plaza Shopping Center, and later retired from the old Bata Shoe Company in Belcamp. She met her future husband, James Edward Ayers whom she married on May 11, 1940. Mary liked to read, sew, crochet, garden and spend time with her family. She was a member of Carsins Run Baptist Church where she taught the adult ladies Sunday school. She attended W.O.M. Ladies Missions as well as, exercise classes at the Aberdeen Senior Center.
Mrs. Ayers is survived by her children, Charles Edward Ayers Sr. and wife, Joan, and James Michiel Ayers Sr. who lost his wife in 2009, all of Churchville; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Jean and Chuck Moore of Mena, AR; 6 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James, who passed away in August 1997.
Pallbearers will be Michiel Ayers Jr., Joseph Ayers, Larry Ayers, Charles Ayers Jr., Tim Taylor, Wayne Ayers Jr., Patrick Ayers and Patrick Oshea.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Carsins Run Baptist Church Building Fund, PO Box 97, Aberdeen, MD 21001.
