Mary Beth Walker Johnson (Beth), 64, beloved wife of the late Owen L. Johnson, died after a brief illness on Wednesday, October 5, 2016 at Sunrise of Annapolis Assisted Living Facility surrounded by family. Born and raised in Harford County, Beth was the daughter of Charles H. and Kathleen C. Walker of Forest Hill. She resided in Annapolis where she was a Speech Pathologist for the Anne Arundel Public School System for nearly forty years.
Beth attended Bel Air's St. Margaret's Parochial School and graduated high school from The John Carroll School in 1970. She graduated University of Maryland in 1974 and completed her masters at Towson University in 1976.
As a speech pathologist, Beth was passionately devoted to the many children she helped throughout her career. A versatile and talented professional, Beth helped children at Tyler Heights Elementary, Arundel Middle School and Annapolis High School. Her focus was always to help her students become more successful through improved language skills.
She was also entirely devoted to her family, and many friends. They always came first. She sincerely enjoyed the company of her immediate and extended families. In particular, she delighted in her many nieces' and nephews' company and provided many positive memories throughout their lives. A lively and gracious character, Beth demonstrated a wonderful sense of humor and looked forward to attending parties and spending time with her friends. Her favorite time of year was always Christmas time. She was gracious, kind-hearted, and thoughtful to those she loved.
She is survived by her sisters, Nancy Walker Martin of New Jersey, Pat Walker Fielder of Sophia's Dairy, Belcamp; sisters-in-law, Betty M. Walker of Forest Hill, Elaine S. Walker of Forest Hill and Leslie P. Walker of Superior, WI. Also she is survived by her brothers, Richard C. Walker of Churchville, Michael C. Walker of Forest Hill, Robert K. Walker of Forest Hill and John J. Walker of Superior, WI; brother-in-law, Dr. James D. Fielder of Sophia's Dairy, Belcamp. Surviving Walker nieces and nephews include: Kevin J. Martin of Washington, DC, Patrick C. Martin, West Long Branch, NJ, Carey Martin Dickerson of Lambertville, NJ, James D. Fielder, III of Denver, CO Emily Walker Dennis of Bel Air and Ian C. Walker of Superior, WI.
Other family survivors include, George W. Johnson, Jr., Nancy Johnson Weitzel, and nephews, David, Mark, Gary, Scott, Glen, David, and Mark Johnson. Surviving nieces include Lisa, Amy, and Wendy Weitzel. Beth was predeceased by her husband, Owen L. Johnson, her parents, Charles and Kathleen Walker, brother-in-law, Randy Weitzel and nephew, Nathan J. Fielder.
The Fielders will host light refreshments at Sophia's Dairy. Donations may be made to St. Luke's Mission of Annapolis.
