Mary Barbara Monahan

Mary Barbara Monahan passed away peacefully on Wednesday December 21, 2022 at the age of 82. Preceded in death by her husband James (Jim) Monahan, she is survived by her daughters Debbie Egerland, Deanna Richards, Jennifer Caramanico and Jill Monahan; sons in laws Jens Egerland, Pat Richards and Chris Caramanico, grandchildren Ben Richards, Grace Richards, Sam Egerland, James Caramanico and John Caramanico and brother Bill Cessna.

Born on February 17, 1940, Barb was raised in Cumberland, Maryland by Ruth and Ike with her three beloved brothers Ed, Fred, and Bill. After marrying Jim, Barb lived in Baltimore and then moved to Bel Air in 1969 where they raised their four daughters. Bel Air was home, and Barb had many wonderful friendships that lasted throughout her life.

At the age of 41, Barb started a new chapter in her life by earning a nursing degree from Harford Community College and embarking on her career at Fallston General Hospital. Working in the recovery room at Fallston, she found her true calling as a nurse and created friendships with her co-workers that lasted beyond her retirement.

All were welcome at Barb and Jim’s house in Marywood. She loved to entertain family and friends and enjoyed spending time on her porch swing, cooking big meals and hanging out by the pool. She became an avid golfer and loved music, dancing and playing cards with friends.

Later in life, Barb loved being “granny” to her five grandchildren and spent much of her time surrounded by her loving family.

A celebration of life will be held in her honor in Bel Air, MD, to be announced at a future date.
