Martin William Rothe Sr., age 93, of Bel Air, MD, passed away on February 24, 2013 at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air, MD. Born in Colgate, MD, he was the son of the late Martin William and Annie Carl Rothe. He was a graduate of the Fork Union Military Academy and served his country during World War II in the US Army and spent 38 months in the European theatre. After the war he worked 38 years for the Patapsco and Back Rivers Railroad. After retiring from there, he worked 25 years for Kunkel Service Company in Bel Air. Martin was a natural athlete who excelled in many sports. He was later inducted into the Dundalk Sports Hall of Fame and also spent years coaching children's baseball teams. He was also an avid golfer and enjoyed working on his lawn. He was a 60 year member of the Patapsco Masonic Lodge and an active member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church. He loved being with people and if he could make someone laugh, that made him happy. Family was important to Martin and he was always proud of their accomplishments.
Mr. Rothe is survived by his wife, Dorothy Rothe; son, Martin William Rothe Jr. and wife, Rhonda, of Abingdon; daughter, Donna Lee Webber and husband, Joseph, of Port Deposit; grandchildren, Jon Valentine, Eric Valentine and Benjamin Webber; and five great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Milton Rothe, and sisters, Dorothy Miller and Margaret Brodka.
