Martha McCollum Hillenburg

Martha McCollum Hillenburg, 90, of Perryman, Maryland passed away on May 15, 2024. 

Marty was a beloved mother to her children and mom-mom to her grandchildren. She was born on November 10, 1934, in Salem, Virginia. On January 15, 1956, she married Gregory Hillenburg who preceded her in death in 2012.

Marty and Greg had six children and seven grandchildren. With six children, she kept very busy running the household and later helping with her grandchildren whenever she could. She was always there to lend a shoulder to cry on. She also was a skilled cook—her fried chicken is legendary! After Greg’s retirement, he and Marty enjoyed traveling throughout the country to photograph covered bridges, visiting their children and grandchildren, and taking annual trips to Little Cranberry Island, Maine to visit Greg’s brother and his wife Kelly and Nancy Hillenburg.

Marty was predeceased by her husband Greg and sister Betty.  She is survived by her children Lisa McNeal (Tim); David Hillenburg (Lienna); Chris Hillenburg (Annie); Kelly Desgrosseilliers (Andy Aswegan); Kimberly Kluth (Daniel); and Mark Hillenburg. She is also survived by her grandchildren Taylor Desgrosseilliers, Gregory Desgrosseilliers, Anna-Lisa Hillenburg, Rebecca Hillenburg, Katherine Nelson, Kaden Maile, and Lily Hillenburg.

Marty will be buried next to Greg in St. George’s Episcopal Church (Spesutia) Cemetery in Perryman, Maryland. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
