Martha C. Simmons

On July 1, 2012 Martha Amanda Coale Simmons of Millsboro, DE, passed away at the age of 95. Born June 23, 1917 in Churchville, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Daniel Edgar Coale and Mary Elizabeth Mitchell Coale. She was married for 59 years to the late Claude Roosevelt Simmons.

She was retired from Hutzlers Department Store in Towson, Maryland where she was a manager for 30 years. In her spare time she enjoyed reading, baking and doing needlework.

Mrs. Simmons is survived by her daughter, Eleanor Proudfoot and husband Keith of Millsboro, Delaware and a sister Elinore Coale Walter of Bel Air. She is preceded in death by her daughter Mary Elizabeth Broumel, her sister Mary Elizabeth Coale and brother Daniel Edgar Coale.

She was a loving grandmother to six grandchilldren, Kim Moore and husband Bill of Churchville, Karen Barben and husband Paul of Jarrettsville, Stephanie Caldwell and husband Jonathan of Gaithersburg, Ellen Broumel of Forest Hill, Martha Broumel-Gwinner and husband Tom of Stewartstown, PA and Paul Broumel of Bel Air. Mrs. Simmons was also beloved by her nine great-grandchildren Allison, Travis and Ian Moore, Jacob and Joshua Barben, Bailey and Connor Caldwell, Sara A. Broumel and Coale D. Gwinner.

Serving as pallbearers will be Bill Moore, Paul Barben, Jonathan Caldwell, Paul Broumel, Jacob Barben and Charles Walter. Travis Moore, Ian Moore, Joshua Barben, Coale Gwinner and John Walter will serve as honorary pallbearers.
