Martha A. Makin, age 85, of Conowingo, MD, died on May 27, 2009 at Citizens Care Center in Havre de Grace, MD. Born in Williamsport, PA, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Kathryn McKelvey and wife, for 55 years, of the late George James Makin Jr. She grew up in Williamsport, PA before moving to Baltimore, Maryland to work on airplanes at the Glenn L. Martin Aircraft Company during WWII. After the war, Marty moved to Bel Air with her husband where they resided for over 50 years. She was a loving wife and mother, fantastic cook and seamstress, making her own clothing and raising her two sons.
Mrs. Makin is survived by her sons, James R. Makin of White Stone, VA and Robert D. Makin of Conowingo, MD; brother, Thomas Edward McKelvey of Pie Town, NM; three grandchildren, Michael R. Makin of New Castle, DE, Paul J. Makin of Woodbridge, VA and Bradley S. Makin of Alexandria, VA; and four great-grandchildren, Taylor, Emily, and Matthew Makin of Woodbridge, VA and Killian Makin of Alexandria, VA.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Bel Air Volunteer Fire Company, 109 S. Hickory Avenue, Bel Air, MD 21014.
