Marshall DeVere Smith, age 86, of Bel Air, MD, died on June 22, 2009 at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD. Born in Reynoldsville, PA, he was the son of the late Edward James and Cora Lee Snyder Smith. A veteran of the U.S. Marines, he earned the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star while serving our country during WWII. A resident of Reynoldsville for over 40 years, he had worked at International Salt Company for over 20 years in Clarks Summit, PA. He was a life member of the Elks Club; a charter member of the WWII National Memorial; and a member of the American Legion, Masonic Lodge, and the Shriners. A devoted Lutheran, he served in various roles in his church. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing with his wife. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, coaching Little League Baseball, and sang in the choir at Avondell Retirement Center, as well as, taking part in the Honor Guard.
Mr. Smith is survived by his wife of 63 years, Gloria Ann Damico Smith of Bel Air, MD; son, Greg Smith of Havre de Grace, MD; daughter, Jeri Smith of Bel Air, MD; brothers, Norman Smith and Gilbert Smith of Reynoldsville, PA; sisters, Gene Daugherty of Erie, PA, Phoebe Ackerman of Florida and Almedia Shields; three grandchildren, Zachary Smith, Gretchen Amrien, Gregory Smith; and one great-grandchild, Trevor Amrien.
